SEBASTIEN BOURDAIS CLAIMS 100TH CHAMP CAR WIN FOR NEWMAN/HAAS/LANIGAN RACING IN HISTORIC EVENT AT PORTLAND

From the start of the Mazda Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland Presented by Joe's Sports and Outdoor everyone knew it would be a historic day, but as the checkered flag flew the race gained more notoriety as Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing earned its 100th Champ Car victory. For the first time in Champ Car history, the race started from a standstill rather than the traditional rolling start. Every driver was able to get going cleanly which set the tone for the caution free day that saw Sebastien Bourdais (#1 McDonald's Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone) cruise to his third straight win.

At the start, polesitter Justin Wilson (#9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone) stormed out to an early lead and then continued to pull away gaining a 15 second lead before the first round of pitstops. On the start, Australian Will Power (#5 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone) jumped from his seventh starting position to third after the Festival Curves with Sebastien Bourdais and Alex Tagliani (#8 LXN2 Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone) close on his heels.

WET AND WILD, AND STILL JUSTIN IS QUICKEST

PORTLAND (June 9) - Thirty foot high (water) rooster tails at 180 mph was the norm at Portland on Saturday! The Bridgestone rain tires were put to the test as drivers put 750 hp to the ground. The Champ Car drivers put on an incredible show of driving talent as the powerful new DP01 Champ Car screamed at full song down the straights.

Dark clouds and steady rain hung over Portland International Raceway guaranteeing Justin Wilson (#9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone) his fifth career Champ Car World Series pole position. With the rain slowing down the lap times, the Brit's time from Friday's qualifying session earned him the top spot. The move also cements Wilson in the Champ Car record books as the Mazda Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland Presented by Joe's Sports and Outdoor will be the first ever Champ Car event to utilize standing starts. Portland is synonymous with Champ Car history hosting its inaugural event on June 12, 1909 and is also the sight of the closest finish in Champ Car history.

Robert Doornbos (right), #14 Minardi Team USA Cosworth/ DP01/ Bridgestone set the quickest time during today's rainy session keeping him on the front row for the race. The second place starting position marks the Dutchman's best Champ Car qualifying effort of the year. Doornbos was almost relegated to the third starting position as Tristan Gommendy (#22 Pay By Touch-Megaspiera Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone) actually set the fastest time of the session, but on his next lap went off the track in Turn 7 and stalled the car. The resulting red-flag meant Gommendy was penalized his fastest lap and instead of starting on the front row, he will have to settle for his best career start of fifth.

JUSTIN WILSON MAKES SPECTACULAR RUN TO PROVISIONAL POLE IN PORTLAND

PORTLAND (June 8, 2007) - Justin Wilson (#9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone) continued his dominance at Portland International Raceway, pacing the field during Friday's first round of qualifying for the Mazda Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland Presented by Joe's Sports and Outdoor.  Under blue skies with the mercury in the thermometer rising to 70 degrees, Wilson negotiated the slippery 1.964-mile road course in 58.000 seconds (121.903 mph) to earn a championship point and a front row starting spot for Sunday's race.

Rookie sensation and Roshfrans Rookie of the Year leader Robert Doornbos (#14 Minardi Team USA Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone) made his best qualifying effort of the year, earning the second fastest time during the session with a lap of 58.214 seconds (121.455 mph).  Doornbos has raised many eyebrows in the Champ Car paddock, earning two podium finishes in his first three career starts.
